Not the full story - just how it started!
Tim cut his teeth at Granada TV in Manchester England, travelling the globe producing and directing series after series of popular factual and entertainment documentaries.
He admits that it felt like hard work at the time, "chasing the story," but looking back, he wished he'd been "more present" in some of the places he found himself. "It's just not the same looking back at photos of "Tim in the Himalayas, Tim with the Chilian navy going round Cape Horn, Tim in China, Jamaica, Brazil, Venezuala, Mexico, Russia, Canada, America, Australia, the list goes on...."
But there were some great shows; ‘Savage Planet,’ uncovering the world’s most geographically hazardous places - 'Yes and we went there too!" ‘Eye of the Storm,' told the human stories of our most dangerous weather. ‘Incredible Stories,' used a scientific approach to explain the world’s greatest mysterious phenomenons like vampires, Bigfoot and Atlantis.
Over twelve million people saw ‘Garages from Hell’, exposing the UK’s dodgiest garages. With "This bloke Walks into a Bar," a stylish documentary about top comedians and their drinking habits, Tim gained a Broadcast Award nomination for "Best Entertainment Programme" His film about David Beckham, ‘Beckham’s Body Parts’ was a cultural milestone in sports documentary-making, investigated the science behind this sporting enigma and his body.
Tim made his move to drama while still at Granada, achieving a childhood ambition to direct 'Coronation Street.' And it's in drama where Tim feels most at home. "Never mind travelling the world and meeting interesting people, you meet just as many on a drama crew and leading everyone, all those talented people on a creative journey everyday is just the greatest privilege."
